How Replicate is empowering churches

by
Madz Deyzel

Many churches have amazing projects that are reaching into their neighbourhoods and changing lives. When there is major success from such programmes, members of other churches notice it and desperately try to duplicate it.

Duplicating may sound like the solution but it is like trying to reinvent the wheel. Have you tried removing a car’s engine, dismantling it then reassembling it without engineering knowledge? Such an approach is time-consuming, unnecessary and likely to lack fruit.

God calls us to multiply, so instead of trying to reinvent a project through duplication, replicate it. This approach is likely to be less stressful and more successful at multiplication.

It is why NAYBA launched Replicate – a comprehensive programme that assists churches by offering the resources and knowledge necessary to guide others so they can replicate their projects.

The course mirrors the passion of NAYBA, which is to empower the local church to practically demonstrate its love for its neighbours.

A worldwide programme

Replicate began as a book by our founder Matt Bird, which helps churches by offering advice and resources to begin replication. But with many churches requesting more practical help, we decided to launch the Replicate course.

Headed by NAYBA Replicate Catalyst Madz Deyzel, the first course recently launched with eight churches around the world taking part.

Madz explains, “The book drew together more than a decade’s experience in helping churches around the world that are on this journey. I have developed The Replicate Course using my practical experience gained from helping more than 100 churches replicate my ministry, EDIFY.

“The Replicate Course is run over 75 minute sessions with seven church-led community leaders who have a heart to replicate. In each session we look at a different topic. At the end, leaders are given reflective questions and objectives to accomplish that practically aids them on their journey to replication.”

Of the eight churches currently taking part in Replicate, three are from Australia, two from the UK, two from South Africa and one from Albania. The projects include empowering young and old people through music, an educational life skills support programme and enterprise and employment schemes.

What people say

Of those taking part, a number are already enjoying the benefit of Replicate. We’ve asked them for their feedback.

Craig Segaert, Intergenerational Integration Initiative, Sydney, Australia: “The Replicate Course summarised very succinctly the main components of everything from scoping a new ministry through setting it up and governing it to the most important element of sustaining it. Madz’s presentations were clear, concise and compelling. The session notes will be a working guide for implementation.”

Jeanette Main, Lyrics & Lunch,  Lancaster, UK: “Replicate is a really useful course delivery so well. There are time-wasting meetings, just pearls of wisdom and experience. I can’t recommend it highly enough.”

Jane Hockey, Hope Centre Services, Mimi’s House, Brisbane Australia: “Thank you for the delivery of The Replicate Course. You managed to juggle different groups and time zones with seemingly ease. It was a great encouragement for me to be part of this program. It gave me confidence that we are positioning ourselves in the right direction and the course gave me many pearls of wisdom to think about as we plan to replicate Mimi’s House. Every bit of the course was well thought through and we were given bite size chunks that were enough to digest but yet, kept me wanting more.”

Becca Green, The Beehive, Ashford, UK: “The Replicate Course gives really simple tools that trigger you into thinking about how you got to where you are in your project, how you can develop a plan to grow and how to get where you want to be. It’s also fantastic to have peer support whilst going through the steps through the others on the course.”
